It’s like an anti-depressant in the form of a song.

Why do we own this?

My employer for my gardening job left her elderly British mother in charge in case any troubles came up. As I’ve discovered over the past six hours, she may be the least hospitable person I’ve ever come across.

After four hours of working in sunny, 85 degree weather the first beverage she offers me is an instant hot coffee. That may be the last drink on the planet I’d be craving at a time like that. She then is unable to locate a cold beverage in the house. I open the fridge door and the first thing I see is an ice cold Sprite.

She gives me a small plate of burnt toast and dry cheese for lunch after she tells me that she can’t find her way around the kitchen. She then explains how the British don’t eat that much during meals and how Americans have large portions sizes, her reasoning for preparing me the plate.

She goes into a confused daze when I ask her to open the garage door, or at least turn on the light switch so that I can see around for some gardening tools. I walk to the doorway, flick the lights, grab what I need and leave.

So much for being “in charge”
